Get to know the NDIS

The NDIS may seem like a lot to take in at first, but it’s really all about helping you. With over 4 million Australians living with disability, our government created the National Disability Insurance Scheme in 2013 to help individuals living with disability and their families to access support. It’s now available in most states across Australia and everyone living with a permanent or significant disability that affects your quality of life may apply to the NDIS for funded support and services to improve your daily living, health and wellbeing.

Anyone between the ages of 7 and 65 who is living in Australia and is living with disability is likely to be eligible. Connect with a registered NDIS provider like Diverse Culture Care for easy access to all the benefits that the NDIS has to offer you.

Frequently Asked Questions About The NDIS

  • How do I get started with the NDIS?

To get started with NDIS funded supports, first check your eligibility here. When you are ready to apply, you can do so by phone or fill out an access request form, and have proof of residency and proof of your disability available.

    Apply to the NDIS.

  • Do I need a Service Agreement?

A service agreement is a written, legal document that confirms the agreement between a participant and your NDIS provider. It details the supports and terms that you have agreed on and is recommended by the NDIA (National Disability Insurance Agency). A service agreement is not compulsory for regular supports, but is required by the NDIA for Specialist Disability Accommodation.

  • Do I need a Plan Manager?

Not everyone decides to have a plan manager, and that’s ok. You can choose to be self-managed so that you have more control over your plan. However, a plan manager can help to relieve the stress of administration duties, especially for people with high intensityneeds  or intellectual disability. Your plan manager will take care of all invoices, paying bills on time and will remind you funds are running low. They help you to get the most out of your budget and to spend it wisely on essential supports.

  • Can you provide 24 hour care?

Diverse Culture Care provides in-home supports on a daily, ongoing or 24-hour basis. If you need full-time care for high intensity disability, speak to our friendly team and we will assign a round-the-clock care team to you.

  • Will I have the same support team each week?

We aim for continuity in the supports we provide, so you gain a sense of trust and familiarity with our team. Each participant is paired with a care team that matches their needs and cultural preferences, and you are likely to receive care from the same people each week, unless you personally request a change.

  • Can you talk through my options with me?

Diverse Culture Care is more than happy to discuss your care options with you. Contact us to book a consultation and one of our Care Advisors will have a one-on-one chat to learn more about your support needs and your goals in life so we can help you achieve them with the right NDIS services. We also offer capacity building supports to empower you to exercise more choice and control over your support options.
